"I, too, asked myself whether I couldn't sell something and succeed in life. For a while now, I have been good for nothing. I am forty years old... Finally, the idea of inventing something insincere crossed my mind, and I set to work straight away. After three months, I showed my production to Ph. Edouard Toussaint, the owner of the Galerie Saint Laurent. But it's art, he said, and I would willingly exhibit all of this. All right, I replied. If I sell something he will take 30%. It seems that these are normal conditions, and that some galleries take 75%. What is it? In fact, objects. Marcel Broodthaers."

"Pop'Art? Ask Jean Dypréau about it. As for me, like the god that I used to be, I no longer tolerate doubt. I make Pop. Forms and colours springing from the brightness of my imagination are proposed in your regard from 2 April at the Galerie Aujourd'hui. Such dreams! Such schemes! How did I manage it? Simply. All I did was to follow the footprints left in the artistic sand by René Magritte and Marcel Duchamp, and the fresh ones left by George Segal, Roy Lichtenstein and Claes Oldenburg. Faithfully, in spite of the winds which blew. I, too, am an apostle of silence. M.B."

("Hello!! Pierre Restany? He is absent. The Architect is absent. The Crow and the Fox are absent. Otto Hahn is there, Dypréau is there. There is also Roland Van den Berghe who comes from Ghent, and who has sent me a poem for this exhibition in Mullem, a village near Audenaerde. Achterzijde van pantser- kan leeglopen in gras: wordt plaat, doorsnede? of sluit je het Marcel Broodthaers. Jean Dypréau writes: There exists a moral which would have stone make squares when it falls into the water. And finally Otto Hahn who gives me carte blanche, wrote in 1964 in Art International, referring to "The Bank": "The Bank full of poetic resonance and qualities. An entire conception of the world, at once acerbic and lucid, is expressed here." "Well? I made portraits of Dypréau and Hahn and I inserted them visually (in 1967) into an enlarged photograph, on canvas, of my bank. It is a question of an environment. In order to reinforce it, I constructed two others. The theme of one is The Written Object, and of the other, The Photographed Object. M.B.")

("A Charles Baudelaire film".)
Ciné Culture No. 105, 7 February 1974. Palais des Beaux-Arts, Société des Expositions, at Studio Arenberg, Brussels. From 31 January 1974. Periodical of Studio Arenberg "Ciné Culture." Bimonthly, No. 105 of 7 February 1974. Printed on both sides, in black, on white paper. Six accordion folded pages. Texts in French, including one about Marcel Broodthaers' film: "Un film de Charles Baudelaire" (Belgium/1973/7 minutes/colour), directed by Marcel Broodthaers, and which constitutes an extension of the exhibition of works by Carl André, Marcel Broodthaers, Daniel Buren, Victor Burgin, Gilbert & George, On Kawara, Richard Long and Gerhard Richter, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts from 8 January until 3 February 1974. With response by Marcel Broodthaers. 25.6 x 22 cm.
"Un film de Charles Baudelaire" is not a film for film buffs. Why? Because it was filmed in the XIXth century. And because film buffs have never seen reels dating from the period when Muybridge, the Lumière brothers and Edison were not yet born, or when they were taking their first steps under the vigilant gaze of their industrial mothers and fathers. But I am preparing a film which has something in it for more or less everybody. This project, entitled "Un jardin d'hiver" ("A winter garden"), is based on the idea that the cinema is a greater misfortune than the theatre but a lesser misfortune than the television. I mean that the misfortune depends on a public which is larger each time, in aid of the growth of receipts. Which doesn't stop it from being a joy. M.B."
