In its origin carboard display box, with a small transparent
Rhodoid window, with two mounted labels of silvered paper reading
the same text, printed in white.
Bottle and stopper: 13 x 8 cm.

Unspecified edition size. Claude Givaudan, Geneva, Switzerland,
1970.
Ref.: Catalogue Martial Raysse, Jeu de Paume, Paris/Carre d'Art,
Nîmes, 1992, p. 292.
Démocratie was created on the occasion of the show
at Galerie Claude Givaudan: "Les Editions Claude Givaudan
presentent: les Parfums de Matial Raysse, des modèles
de Catherine Carrara", 7 July 1970.
This scent is unique, specially created for Martial Raysse for
this piece. The fragrance is a strong smell of sweat. Martial
Raysse created ironically this "democratic" perfume,
the working people scent -the sweat- mocking at one of the major
icons of luxe, the perfume, for the happy few.
Another ironic aspect of the story: ageing, the "sweat"
scent has turned into a quite acceptable nice smelling.
